The best players in the world of Hearthstone meet at Gamegune 2015

 

Gamegune 2015 will welcome 16 of the best video game players in the world in a competition that will be held on the 20th and 21st of November, and that will share 25,200 euros in prizes. In addition to the spectacle of the games, which will take place at the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, the event will feature professional cosplayers from all over Europe, who will show off suits they have made to recreate characters from video games.

This competition of professional gamers, now in its 15th edition, will be dedicated to the game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, from Blizzard Entertainment. More than 30 million players from all over the world participate in individual combat, with virtual cards which combine chance and strategy. Hearthstone has the largest audience of any online strategy game, now drawing more than 11% of all video game spectators worldwide.

Gamegune, organized by Euskaltel Konekta Foundation and sponsored by Euskaltel and SPRI, will open its doors to all who would like to attend the games, until full capacity is reached. A spectacular stage, 5 live "game-casters," and a screen will allow fans to enjoy the roar of combat in a great atmosphere.

In addition, the tournaments will be streamed, so that they can be followed by millions of fans all over the world. The games will be broadcast in Spanish, English, French, German and Russian. This year´s Gamegune is expected to greatly surpass last year's Internet audience, which reached 50,000 unique users.

The best player in the world

The enormous level of the competition is confirmed by the presence at Gamegune 2015 of the game's best player in the world, the Dutch Thijs "ThijsNL" Molendijk. Also appearing among the 16 gamers are three champions of the world-wide Top Ten: the American James "Firebat" Kostesich, the Czech Stanislaw "StanCifka" Cifka, and the Ukrainian Aleksandr "Kolento" Maloh. 

Before this stage of the competition, more than 200 players from all over the world participated in an early phase to become one of the 16 finalists. The past 8th of November the eliminations were posted online, and the resulting winner was the Czech player Mikulás "Pokrorac" Dio, who moved on to the Gamegune.

The cosplayers who will be featured at the event, coming from Italy, Germany, Norway and Spain, show off their suits, created to represent the most popular characters from the game Hearthstone.
